Dolphins Swim Team

The YWCA Greenwich Dolphins Swim Team, now in its 50th year, made quite a splash in 2020! Although the annual trip to Charlotte was cancelled due to COVID-19, Nick Cavataro lead the team’s 218 swimmers through a successful season and placed in the top 6 at the Connecticut Senior Championships. The Dolphins team retained its designation as a Silver Club for the fourth consecutive year.

Three Dolphins swimmers, Payton Foster, Meghan Lynch and Penny Lazar achieved national rankings in their individual age groups. YWCA Greenwich is grateful to the loyal Dolphins parents who contributed to the Fund for Dolphins Excellence and raised money to purchase a new state-of-the-art video scoreboard.

Childhood Education

The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Preschool at YWCA Greenwich

The Steven & Alexandra Cohen Preschool at YWCA Greenwich enrolled 66 children ages 15 months through 4 years, representing 25 countries during the 2019 -2020 school year. Children enjoyed a range of educational activities, as well as swimming and gymnastics. When the building closed in mid-March, the creative staff continued to provide fun, innovative activities that were posted on the YWCA website. In addition to the website content, staff reached out to the children by zoom and reconnected with drive-by events. Happily, many children returned to participate in the summer program when in-person programming resumed in June.

Teachers in the Preschool program continue to work towards NAEYC accreditation.

Kaleidoscope and The Hub Afterschool Programs

Once again Mr. Arthur and his staff welcomed elementary and middle school students from throughout the community to YWCA Greenwich’s afterschool programs.

Now in its second year, The Hub for middle school students continues to grow. Support from the Greenwich Alliance for Education provided these students with technology that enabled them to complete homework and learn new skills. With funding and guidance from Google, both elementary and middle schoolers in the YWCA Greenwich afterschool programs learned computer science and coding.

Youth Fitness

YWCA Greenwich continues to be home for great fitness programs for kids. From precompetitive gymnastics and swim lessons, to tennis and golf and Greenwich’s Babe Ruth Baseball, YWCA Greenwich has top notch coaching and instructional staff who work with kids of all ages.
